2018 Youth Mission Trip
Cocke County, Tennessee (July 8 – 15, 2018)
A very successful mission trip this year with Appalachian Service Project to Cocke County, Tennessee! Fifteen participants traveled 12 hours to the communities located around the county to make their homes warmer, safer, and drier.
The homeowners we worked with had applied for help through ASP three years ago, and finally received a phone call this last spring. Harold and Maxine live in a trailer home in a remote area about 30 miles from where the center was located. Previous groups had worked on reinforcing girders underneath the trailer, and pulling off the old roof and replacing it with a new tin roof. Our crew came in and built a new 5×5 porch with stairs, completed framework for underpinning around the trailer for skirting, and the other half of the crew worked inside to tear out water damaged ceilings and insulation, and replace the insulation and hang new drywall ceilings.
